Deutscher Planspielpreis 2019

ETH Student Manuel Stamm wins 3rd Price at the “Deutscher Planspielpreis 2019” for his Bachelor Thesis on “Role-playing games as an educational tool”. Manuel took the role-playing game developed by OPAL (CoPalCam), translated it into German and adapted it to be played in Swiss Secondary Schools. The game was then played many times in schools of Zurich as part of another SNF-funded Project called “Edible Research – hands-on learning for teenagers”. In his thesis, Manuel evaluated how well the game worked in a school setting and how it supported student’s learning about palm oil and issues related to it. Several game boxes are now available at teacher training universities, and the game continues to be played by the teachers we have trained.

The thesis is available below, as well as the Teacher’s brochure.
