Public panel discussion debunks myths about palm oil

The OPAL team organized a public event on the topic of ‘Oil palm: Beyond controversies’, with around 220 attendees packing the ETH Zürich lecture hall. Five experts were invited to talk about their field of experience on the topic of oil palm and supply chain management – Dr. Patrice Levang from IRD, Putra Agung from WWF Indonesia, Rob McWilliams from The Forest Trust, Kathrin Rutishauser from Migros.

After short presentations from each of the experts, a lively discussion with the very interested public was held and several questions could be answered and controversies discussed. The questions evolved around questions such as whether palm oil is responsible for the haze in Indonesia and if there is a way of sustainably consuming palm oil products?
